French Bridoré Castle is revealed in a book by Pierre-Alexandre Mouveau

Advisors to the kings of France, ingenious fortifications, steam baths in the Middle Ages… For centuries, the Château de Bridoré has accumulated stories and features that make it a unique place in South Touraine France.
Since October 1, 2026, they have been brought together in a book written by someone who knows the place particularly well: Pierre-Alexandre Mouveau, owner of the Château de Bridoré.
Entitled "The Château de Bridoré – Huit siècle d'histoire en Sud Touraine" (Eight centuries of history in South Touraine), the book invites you to explore the history of the fortress, from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Eight centuries of history behind the walls of Bridoré
Visiting Bridoré allows you to discover a fortress. The book helps you understand its evolution.
Pierre-Alexandre Mouveau looks back on the major periods that shaped the French Château and on the characters who marked its history.
Among them are the Boucicaut family, but also Imbert de Batarnay, advisor to four kings of France and one of the most emblematic owners of Bridoré.
As the pages unfold, the links between the Château and the history of France become apparent, as well as the successive transformations that have allowed it to survive through the centuries.
A fortress designed to adapt
Bridoré is also distinguished by its defensive architecture.
Its keep, its outer bailey and especially its four caponiers tell the story of the evolution of military techniques and the progressive adaptation of fortifications to the progress of artillery.
The book helps to decipher these devices and to better understand what we observe today when visiting the Castle.
Another way to look at its walls: no longer just as the remains of a medieval fortress, but as witnesses to the innovations of their time.
Steam baths and latrines: another face of the Middle Ages
However, Bridoré's history is not limited to its defense systems.
Some of its features tell a much more intimate story: that of the daily lives of its occupants.
Steam rooms, steam baths and latrines in particular challenge some preconceived ideas about hygiene in the Middle Ages.
These installations are now among the most fascinating features to discover at the Castle. The book examines their operation and what they reveal about life within the fortress.
Preserve in order to pass on
Through this book, Pierre-Alexandre Mouveau also tells a more personal story.
That of a castle passed down within the family and a heritage that must be continually maintained, restored and kept alive.
Because telling the story of Bridoré is also telling the story of the women and men who have succeeded one another to preserve the place until today.
This desire to preserve in order to pass on the story is the central theme of the book: to make the history of the Castle known so that it continues to live on far beyond its walls.
